Texas 70.3

Hi folks,

I am writing this feeling sore and tired after a hard race in Texas on the weekend. This was my first race over here and I was probably a bit over ambitous putting my foot on the start line considering Ironman Australia was only a few weeks before and my training has been very light to say the least. Add to the fact that this was one of the best fields to race in a 70.3 in America I was not that hopeful of a top 5.

The swim started off well but I veered off to the left losing the main pack and putting be well back in the overly long 2km swim which I exited in 31 min! not a great start to a long day.

After this I really was not in a good head space as I have been swimming well recently, from that point on I decided to ride hard into the headwind on the out and back course and just try and get through this race in one piece and just finish it, so I jogged to the line and did the right thing, meeting an age grouper called Norm along the way who kept me company!

Training has been really up and down the last few weeks with settling in here i SD, I move to Boulder in 5 days and am looking forward to hitting the roads and the trails there, plus with just about every name in triathlon there the place will be buzzing.

Hey folks,

Touchdown in the land of the free, the home of fast food and everything else that is HUGE! I am settling in here in San Diego where I will be based for the next few weeks.. I am doing light training as I am getting the body back in to the groove after the ironman a few weeks ago, but in saying that I am feeling good and looking forward to my first race in Texas on the 25th….after that I have another week in San Diego before I ship out to Boulder on the 1st of May where I will be meeting up with my roommate Tim Berkel. We have rented a great place for 5 months and am really looking forward to hitting the tri scene in Boulder as everyone says how fantastic it is.

I will keep you updated as to how things are going in the coming weeks, but for now that is the low down and what is happening…. the main thing was however that bike and body is in the US in one piece and feeling good!

After this I meet my wife Danielle in Cancun and we have a few weeks holiday before I get back and start my prep for Ironman WA! so its a big year and will keep you all updated when I am over there.
